We have learned that the Morro Bay City Council is now set to revisit the proposed medical marijuana dispensary ordinance, and that the item will be on the April 26 agenda.
The current impression is that Mayor Yates and Councilman Smukler are in favor of passing the ordinance, but the other three (George Leage, Nancy Johnson and Carla Borchard) may well vote against it unless they are strongly urged by their Morro Bay constituents to pass the ordinance.
This is a call to action to residents of the City of Morro Bay to join our ASA representatives in appearing at the meeting next Tuesday and speaking to the Council in strong support of passage of the dispensary ordinance. The Council has clearly expressed its priority to serve and hear comment from their constituents, the Morro Bay residents. So if you know someone in Morro Bay city limits who can attend and maybe speak, PLEASE spread the word!
A good turnout, which is professional in approach (both inside and outside the Hall) will be better received by the Council. The suggestion has been made by the subcommittee working on this ordinance that public comments not focus on specific, detailed parts of the draft ordinance, but more in overall support for its passage. (Reminder: Morro Bay voters rejected a proposed ban on dispensaries by a margin of 55% to 45%.)
Please also spread the word to Morro Bay supporters for them to PHONE or EMAIL the City Council, urging passage of the ordinance. We suggest that you particularly focus on contacting Councilman Leage and Councilwoman Johnson.
